It really came as no surprise when David Moyes revealed on Tuesday night that Jack Wilshere had rolled his ankle and picked up another injury in training prior West Ham’s 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup.

The midfielder was a conspicuous absence for a game that he would have surely played in had he been fit as he desperately tries to salvage something, anything, from his West Ham career.

Moyes said post match: “He rolled his ankle in training yesterday or he would have played tonight.

He was West Ham’s best player in the Premier League Asia Trophy tournament in China and looked like he might have been over his injury issues.

But, like so often since making the move from Arsenal, it went wrong.

And now, another ankle problem.

“He's come from a winning club, he used to play Champions League, and that mentality now comes to West Ham and we need to use it to come to important times.” Wilshere has barely been used since then.
