West Ham are facing a fight to hang onto teenage starlet Jeremy Ngakia.

West Ham have failed to agree a new deal with the defender, who broke into the first team this season, and time is running out to tie him down.

Ngakia's current contract expires at the end of this season and he is on course to leave having turned down an offer worth up to £5000-per-week.

West Ham were hoping to agree a one-year extension before going on to sort out a longer and bigger deal down the line.

Ngakia's current contract expires on June 30 giving West Ham time to return with an improved offer.

Ngakia has impressed in his four appearances for West Ham this season after being surprisingly promoted to the first team and filling in ahead of Pablo Zabaleta when Ryan Fredericks was injured.

He was handed his debut against Liverpool in January and also played the full match in West Ham's three games before football was suspended, against the champions elect, Southampton and Arsenal.
