West Ham are in search for a striker after they finally decided to let Marko Arnautovic leave the club to join Chinese side Shanghai SIPG for £22.4million.

The Hammers had only recently given the striker a contract extension in January, amid interest from China, after which he declared he was "Happy to stay" at the East London club.

Following renewed interest in Arnautovic during this summer, West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini felt in order to maintain squad harmony he was willing to let the player leave.

The process of trying to convince Haller to move to West Ham hasn't been an easy process with reports in France suggesting the striker was initially looking for a team that would have Champions League football next season.

Haller wasn't the only striker West Ham were interested in as they had been keeping close tabs on Celta Vigo forward Maxi Gomez.

West Ham were competing with Valencia for Uruguayan who scored 13 goals in La Liga last season, but it appears they have lost out to the Spanish side as they cannot offer Champions League football next season.

It is understood Gomez has told friends that he wants to play in the Champions League next season and as a result prefers a move to Valencia over a switch West Ham.
