West Ham manager Pellegrini has revealed that he wanted Adrian to stay at The London Stadium this season.

The Chilean thought the goalkeeper was a good goalkeeper, and also a good person to have around the squad.

Adrian was signed by Liverpool this month after his contract expired at West Ham.

The Spaniard spent six years with the Hammers, but was dropped on a number of occasions to cater for other goalkeepers, including Joe Hart and Darren Randolph.

But, Adrian was widely praised for his determination and professionalism in winning back his place at West Ham.

Pellegrini was disappointed to see him leave after last season, although Adrian failed to make the starting 11 ahead of Lukasz Fabianski.

The manager added that he was happy for Adrian after he helped Liverpool to win the Super Cup against Chelsea.

“I’m very happy for him, because he played a lot of years here at West Ham. He’s a very good goalkeeper,” said Pellegrini.

“For different reasons he couldn’t find an arrangement to continue here.

“We wanted him here because not only is he a good goalkeeper, but he is a good player for the squad.

“He signed for Liverpool and put in a very good performance and I’m happy for him.”

Liverpool won the Super Cup in a penalty shootout against Frank Lampard’s Chelsea.

The Reds scored all five of their penalties, before Adrian made the crucial save against Tammy Abraham in a penalty shootout to secure the victory.

Adrian probably wasn’t expecting to play in the cup final, after he was signed just two weeks previously as a back-up to Alisson.

But, the Brazilian suffered an injury in Liverpool’s first Premier League match of the season against Norwich City.

Adrian now faces being No 1 at Anfield until Alisson returns, with the keeper potentially out for as long as eight weeks.
