Three minutes into the second half Declan Rice scored his first West Ham goal by sticking away Nasri’s lay-off to give the hosts the lead.

The three points moved the Hammers up to eighth in the Premier League temporarily until the rest of the weekend’s games were played.

Samir Nasri also started against his former club, the midfielder making his Premier League debut for the Hammers.

Marko Arnautovic was named in the West Ham starting line-up for the lunchtime kick-off against Arsenal despite his brother and agent claiming on Thursday that he wants a move to the Chinese Super League.

Nasri was given a warm reception when he was withdrawn from the action at the same time having made his full league debut for the club.

Despite near misses at either end for Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi and Hammers playmaker Felipe Anderson, it was goalless at half-time at the London Stadium.
