West Ham Boosted by Returns to Training for Andriy Yarmolenko and Jack Wilshere

A trio of West Ham United players were a welcome sight back in training as each face questions over their future with the Premier League side.

Andriy Yarmolenko, Jack Wilshere and Ryan Fredericks have all recovered from injuries suffered prior to the suspension of play and returned to training in small groups - as Premier League clubs take their first steps towards returning to action.

Jack Wilshere has played just 175 minutes in the Premier League this season

West Ham are 16th in the table, above the relegation zone by goal difference alone. After two wins from David Moyes' first games in charge following his mid-season replacement of Manuel Pellegrini, the club had won just one of their ten fixtures prior to the enforced hiatus.

However, the Hammers will be boosted by the return of three potentially pivotal players as football.london note all three were all back in action at Chadwell Heath.

After joining in the summer of 2018, Yarmolenko has made just 15 starts in all competitions for West Ham and the Ukraine international's debut campaign was cut short by a ruptured Achilles tendon.

This season he lasted a bit longer, suffering a tear in the abductor muscle just ahead of the crowded Christmas schedule. Now 30 years of age - during the suspension of play - Yarmolenko revealed his desire to stay at West Ham despite links with a move away.

Despite his injuries, only three West Ham players have scored more than Yarmolenko's three Premier League goals this season

Wilshere, meanwhile, joined the Hammers on a free transfer from Arsenal in the same window as Yarmolenko, but has conspired to feature in even fewer games - sadly living up to his injury-prone reputation.

The 28-year-old's contract expires at the end of next season and in April he admitted the move from north to east London 'hasn't worked out'.

As for Fredericks, he's been one of the bright spots in an otherwise dour season for West Ham. After battling injury and Pablo Zabaleta for a starting berth after his arrival in 2018, Fredericks was one of West Ham's most consistent players prior to his shoulder injury in February.

There have been links between West Ham and River Plate's right-back Gonzalo Montiel, but of the three recent returnees, Fredericks' future at the club seems to be by far the most certain.
