Welcome to the Evening Standard's rolling transfer news and rumours live blog as the summer transfer speculation increases.

The window officially opened this week after the completion of the delayed 2019-2020 Premier League season. Premier League clubs will now be busy reshaping their squad ahead of the new campaign, with the window scheduled to close on October 5.

Chelsea have already brought in the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, stealing a march on their rivals, while the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City are making early progress on adding to their squads.

Arsenal and Tottenham will have European football on offer for any of their targets, and that could prove invaluable over what is expected to be a difficult summer to conduct business.

Stay tuned for the latest transfer news and rumours...

Sancho to Man Utd update Bayer know Havertz Chelsea decision Arsenal in for cut-price Rakitic? Gabriel Magalhaes linked to Man United Palace eye Sarr as Zaha replacement Arteta confident over Aubameyang Juve offer Bernardeschi for Smalling Barca halt Lautaro bid

Barcelona have stopped negotiations over a move for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, president Jose Maria Bartomeu has revealed.

The Catalan giants have been locked in discussions over a player-plus-cash deal but Inter have refused to budge on their £98m asking price, which has proved too steep for the Catalans during the coronavirus pandemic.

"Barça have spoken with Inter about Lautaro, but the talks have stopped. The situation doesn't invite large investments," he told Diario Sport.

Man Utd snub Smalling loan extension

Manchester United have rebuffed Roma in their attempts to extend Chris Smalling's loan spell.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed a fine campaign in Italy, even reportedly attracting interest Juventus.

The Giallorossi want to extend his loan deal so that he can participate in the latter stages of the Europa League, but according to reports in Italy, United only want a permanent deal.

Arteta 'makes Rakitic phone call'

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has reportedly identified Ivan Rakitic as a summer target after reports in France claim he phoned the Barcelona star over a potential transfer.

Photo: AP
Le10 Sport report the Spaniard recently telephoned Rakitic, 32, to inform him of his desire to bring him to the Emirates Stadium after falling out of favour at Camp Nou.

However, the Gunners are likely to fail in their attempts to land Rakitic, as the story concurs with the Mundo Deportivo story from earlier today that suggested the Croatian wants to return to Sevilla or head to the Serie A.

London clubs eye Brooks

Tottenham and West Ham are ready to battle it out with Everton to sign Bournemouth winger David Brooks this summer.

Photo: APThe Wales international appears likely to leave the Cherries after Eddie Howe's departure on Saturday following the club's relegation to the Championship.

The Daily Star claim all three Premier League clubs are keen to nab the 23-year-old but may have to pay up to £30m to secure his signature.

Palace 'identify Zaha replacement'

Crystal Palace will try to sign Ismaila Sarr from Watford should Wilfried Zaha leave the club this summer.

Photo: ReutersSarr, 22, has impressed for the Hornets in his debut season in England despite their relegation on the final day of the season.

The Senegalese winger, who has also been linked with Liverpool, appears unlikely to stay in the Championship and Palace could make a cut-price bid for the winger, according to MailOnline.

However, it may depend on the funds they receive for Zaha, who has told the club he wants to leave, with reported interest from Everton and PSG.

Maldini coy on Milan's Aurier move

Paolo Maldini has revealed AC Milan held talks with Serge Aurier's agent over a move to the San Siro last year and refused to rule out making another approach this summer.

Photo: APThe Tottenham full-back is reportedly interesting Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco as well as Milan, with a view to a £15m move.

And Maldini refused to divulge any further information after it was claimed in Italy the Rossonieri had opened talks over a transfer.

“We spoke to his agent last year, to be honest, now we’ll see how the next few weeks go," he told Sky Sport Italia.

Arteta lines up Diego Carlos move

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will be feeling triumphant after their FA Cup victory on Saturday and now the Spaniard can start planning for next season.

Photo: GettyThe Telegraph report the Gunners are looking at signing another centre-back, Sevilla's Diego Carlos, despite the return of William Saliba from his loan spell at St Etienne.

Arteta also has six other centre-backs in his squad, David Luiz, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Shkodran Mustafi, Pablo Mari, Rob Holding and Calum Chambers.

But with a Europa League campaign to manage, Arsenal are hoping to strike a deal for the Brazilian - who has also been linked with Liverpool - as he plans to overhaul his squad this summer.

Rakitic says 'yes' to Sevilla return

Ivan Rakitic looks set to finally head for the Barcelona exit after telling Sevilla he will be rejoining the club.

The front page of Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo this morning carries a big story reporting Rakitic, 32, has told the LaLiga outfit 'Si!', which of course translates to "Yes!"

The Croatian has only a year remaining on his contract and after seeing his first-team opportunities limited under Quique Setien, heading back to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan always seemed to be the most likely outcome.

Sancho to Man Utd latest

Manchester United are trying to use similar negotiation tactics to sign Jadon Sancho as they did when they landed Bruno Fernandes.

Photo: GettyThe Portuguese arrived at Old Trafford in January for a deal worth an initial £46.5m, with a further £21m to be paid in add-ons.

United had managed to drive down Sporting Lisbon's initial asking price for the 25-year-old, and The Manchester Evening News say United are hoping to use the same trick when negotiating with Dortmund over Sancho.

It is believed the Bundesliga outfit will not budge on their £100m valuation of the 20-year-old and Standard Sport understands United will not pay over £70m for one player due to financial insecurities from the coronavirus pandemic.

Garcia move to Barca 'delayed'

Reports in Spain suggest Manchester City are resigned to losing Eric Garcia to Barcelona but a deal will not happen until after the conclusion of the Champions League.

Photo: APThe 19-year-old, who joined Man City in 2017 from Barca, is reportedly considering a move back to Camp Nou despite breaking into the first team under Pep Guardiola.

Diario Sport's latest report says it's a case of "when, not if" the centre-back will return to Catalonia, with only a year left to run on his contract.

And accordingly, City are prepared to enter talks over the move but only when they have finished their Champions League participation.

Gabriel to Old Trafford?

Gabriel Magalhaes is a wanted man this summer - and he could be on his way to the north west of England.

According to Sky Sports, the Lille defender's representatives have flown into the UK to speak to two clubs - thought to be Everton and Manchester United.

At 22, Gabriel is seen as a more mobile partner to Harry Maguire at Old Trafford - but Everton are certainly keen, and Carlo Ancelotti is a big draw for any player.

United, of course, can offer Champions League football now, but given Lille just sold Victor Osimhen for around 50 million euros, they will be under no pressure to cash in right now.

Youth boost for Liverpool

By all accounts, it looks as though Liverpool will be promoting young academy players this summer rather than making big signings due the the impact Covid-19 has had on their transfer budget.

Gini Wijnaldum believes that this will be a good thing for both Jurgen Klopp and his first-team squad though, saying: "First of all, [the academy players] are really humble, they are really greedy to learn from the older players in the team and that gives you a boost to help them even more because they really want to learn from the players in the first team, and beside that they have a lot of quality.

“We just be there for them, help them to prepare as good as possible so that when their time is there, they can do the job that we do now. It’s good to work with them and beside that they also make the squad stronger because when they train they give 100 per cent and they want to show how good they are. That makes us as first-team players better.

“So I think it’s both ways: it’s not that we only teach them but also that they make sure that we are on the front foot, because like I said they train at 100 per cent and even more, so also we have to be concentrated because they are good competitors in training.”

Ozil sends Arsenal message

Mesut Ozil congratulated his Arsenal team-mates on their FA Cup Final triumph after being permission by the club to travel to Turkey and miss the game.

Ozil was not in attendance at Wembley for Arsenal's 2-1 victory over Chelsea last night, despite the Gunners being permitted to bring 10 players outside of their matchday squads to the final.

The German midfielder has not played a single minute for the Gunners since football's restart and was recently given permission by the club to travel to Turkey.

The reason for that trip remains unclear, though Ozil did send a message of congratulations to his Arsenal team-mates.

After the win, Ozil wrote on Twitter: "Great job my boys! #YaGunnersYa #FACupWinners".

Parrott: I want to follow Kane's example

Troy Parrott says he is hoping to follow in Harry Kane's footsteps and forge a successful career at Tottenham after joining Millwall on loan.

Photo: Getty ImagesThe 18-year-old will join the Championship outfit for the 2020-21 campaign to replicate Kane's move in the 2011-12 season.

The Irish starlet has found first-team opportunities at Spurs limited in recent months and the experience of playing in the second tier will give Parrott some much-needed game time.

"Harry Kane went on loan to Millwall so hopefully I can follow in the same footsteps and go back and play in the Premier League," Parrott said.

AC Milan eye Tottenham's Aurier

AC Milan are interested in signing Tottenham right back Serge Aurier, according to reports.

Sky Sports Italia report that the Serie A side will look to bring in the Ivorian should they sell either Davide Calabria or Andrea Conti.

Juve offer Bernardeschi to Man United for Smalling

Well, this would be quite something.

Photo: AFPReports in Italy suggest Juventus are keen on stealing a march on Roma by snapping up Chris Smalling from Manchester United.

Roma have so far failed to reach an agreement with United over a loan extension after the 30-year-old's impressive loan stint at the Stadio Olimpico.

Now Calciomercato say Juve will offer a swap deal to the Red Devils which would see Federico Bernardeschi head to Old Trafford in exchange, with the Italian winger down the pecking order at the Allianz Stadium.

Man City chase Sergi Roberto

After losing David Silva this summer, Pep Guardiola is reportedly eyeing a move for Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto.

Photo: AFP

The 28-year-old, who can also play right-back, was handed his debut by Guardiola while he was in charge of the Catalan giants.

And according to Diario Sport, Guardiola is keen to bring the versatile Spaniard to the Etihad Stadium, with a big fee likely to tempt Barca into a sale.

Arsenal step up Joelson Fernandes pursuit

Arsenal have sent a delegation to Lisbon to tie up a deal for Sporting's Joelson Fernandes, according to O Jogo.

Photo: Getty Images

The 17-year-old has been linked with a move to Emirates Stadium this summer amid a standoff in talks over a new contract with Sporting.

The Gunners have been alerted after talks broke down over a new release clause.

He could be available for a fee of between £13.5m and £18million.

Arteta confident over Aubameyang contract

Mikel Arteta appeared confident that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will still be an Arsenal player next season.

Photo: Getty Images

"He knows what I think about him, I want to build a squad around him," the Gunners boss said on BBC One.

"I want him to stay, it is about getting the deal done.

"I think moments like that will help him to believe we are on the right path and he is a big part of it. He is loved by everyone at the club. I think he will (stay)."

Palace eye Sarr as Zaha replacement

Crystal Palace have identified Watford's Ismaila Sarr as a potential replacement for Wilfried Zaha.

Photo: Getty Images

Zaha is once again being linked with a move away from Selhurst Park, and Palace are said to be keen on securing Sarr's services following Watford's relegation to the Championship.

The Sun on Sunday report that Palace could offer as much as £40million for the 23-year-old Senegalese international.

When does the 2020 summer transfer window open?

Premier League clubs have agreed on the revised start and finish dates of this summer’s transfer window.

The window is now open for 10 weeks from July 27.

Following consultation with the EFL, a domestic-only window will be added from 5 October, closing 5pm on 16 October. During this window, Premier League clubs will only be able to trade with EFL clubs (either loans or permanent registrations). No transfers can take place between Premier League clubs in this period.

Chelsea will push ahead with moves for Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz and remain interested in Leicester City’s Ben Chillwel, while Manchester United are also expected to be busy this summer.

Jadon Sancho remains Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s number one target, and a deal should be completed if Man United can negotiate a compromise on the £100m-plus valuation Dortmund has for the England international.
