Three contracts David Moyes and David Sullivan must offer at West Ham

With football currently at a halt in England talk of new contracts might seem a bit remiss, especially in the case of West Ham.

If and when the league does resume, the Hammers will restart their battle against Premier League relegation with nine games to go.

Last Sunday would have been the Hammers' last game of the season and it had the potential to be a relegation showdown between David Moyes’ side and Aston Villa, who were supposed to be the visitors to London Stadium.

Results haven’t improved as much as hoped since Moyes returned to the club to replace the axed Manuel Pellegrini in December last year, with just two victories in ten attempts for the Scotsman before the coronavirus pandemic ground football to a halt.

Moyes bolstered his squad in January with the captures of Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen, but he also has some new contract decisions to make going forward.

Here, we take a look at three players who are entering the final stages of their current deals and the club should be looking to keep a hold of.

Jeremy Ngakia

The teenage right back is out of contract, a scholarship deal at that, at the end of this season. Having broken through to the first team under Moyes this season, he’l be looking to get that extended and a bump up in pay too.

Football.London understands the Hammers have offered him an extension on a minimal deal to get Ngakia committed for next year and they will then thrash out a big pro deal for the 19-year-old.

Ngakia has been one of the better stories of what has been a dismal season in east London, with four impressive appearances under his belt since making his debut against Liverpool. With Ryan Fredericks’ injury issues and Pablo Zabaleta also out of contract this summer, getting Ngakia’s sorted is crucial.

Michail Antonio

Antonio is out of contract at the end of next season and will be looking to get that extended as he enters the latter stages of his career.

In previous summers, the wideman has been apparently of interest to other clubs and the Hammers had a £25million price tag on his head, though that seems a bit fanciful considering the current situation.

Antonio is well liked at West Ham within the squad and among the fans. He can still have a big impact on the team despite his dodgy hamstrings which can keep on the sidelines for frustrating periods.

On his day though, he’s still a big asset to the team.

Lukasz Fabianski

The Polish keeper has been an excellent recruit for the Hammers since he arrived in 2018 and is out of contract at the end of next season.

West Ham had struggled with goalkeepers since moving to London Stadium but Fabianski has taken ownership of the number one jersey with aplomb.

His injury earlier this season was a massive blow and it demonstrated just how important he is to the team.

The Pole will be 36 when his contract runs out so the club could potentially get another year, perhaps two, out of him before the player will no doubt look to return back to his homeland to finish his career.

By that time, the club will have hoped that either Nathan Trott, Joseph Anang or Krizstian Hegyi will have made the step up to first team level.
