West Ham are set to announce the signing of Spanish midfielder Pablo Fornals as their latest recruit and it marks the latest step of how West Ham have revolutionised themselves in the transfer market.

But barring a massive turn of events, Fornals will be a West Ham player soon enough and Pellegrini's push for Europe can begin.

You can trace it back to 11 months ago when the game was changed in east London in terms of recruitment, not just bringing in Mario Husillos as director of football, but the capture of Felipe Anderson from Lazio on July 15.

Slaven Bilic had broken the transfer record at the club twice by signing Andre Ayew and then Marko Arnautovic but spending £42m on one player, especially one who had never played in the Premier League before, was groundbreaking for a team like West Ham.

Pellegrini's arrival started it but Anderson's arrival really kicked it off.

That has now led to the Hammers linked with more players of the upper echelon in the transfer window.
