West Ham will wait on the Football Association’s written reasons before deciding on a second appeal against Robert Snodgrass’ charge of misconduct towards UK Anti-Doping officials, having been surprised by the decision.

The Scottish midfielder has been handed a one-match ban, pending appeal, and a £30,000 fine following alleged use of improper language towards anti-doping officials during a visit to the club’s Rush Green training ground in February.

Snodgrass was not the subject of the visit and did not refuse to be tested.

A club statement read: "West Ham United can confirm that the Football Association has suspended Robert Snodgrass for one match and fined the player £30,000 following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing, in respect of a charge over alleged offensive comments made towards Doping Officials during a routine training ground visit.

"The suspension is not currently effective while the right of appeal is considered, pending receipt of the written reasons.

"No further comment will be made at this time."
