As per the Evening Standard, Jarrod Bowen does not have a relegation release clause in his contract at West Ham should the Hammers go down once the season resumes – at whatever time it actually does.

The Irons have had a difficult year and it seems fair to assume once the season restarts – if it does – all focus will be on trying to get safe as soon as possible.

Indeed, going down to the Championship for the club would be a nightmare with the wage bill and the players currently on the books, and so avoiding such a financial hit would be a bonus.

If the club does drop, though, it’ll be interesting to see which players the club manages to keep, with the Standard reporting that Bowen would not have to be released upon relegation, having only signed from second-tier Hull City in the January window.

The attacker has done fairly well for the Irons since arriving in the last market and fans will want to see more of him after impressing so much in the Championship.

Naturally, he won’t want to end back there so soon but there is no clause to help him avoid that, which is at least a bonus to the club.

In addition, he’d have to take a wage cut upon dropping down – as seems standard for most players – but the best thing to do would be to avoid relegation altogether.
