Opinion: West Ham’s midfield maestro just isn’t good enough

Last season we saw the injury issues that the Arsenal midfielder has always suffered with, and whilst he’s stayed injury-free this time around, he simply doesn’t seem good enough to be starting at West Ham, and given his wages it really isn’t an ideal situation for either Wilshere or West Ham.

Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham are a side that looks like they can beat absolutely anyone on their day.

It really doesn’t help that the 27-year-old is earning an obscene amount of money.

The Hammers cannot be underestimated given their obvious talents, and the midfield has a perfect balamce with the likes of Mark Noble, Declan Rice and Manuel Lanzini forming their strongest three.

Both Noble and Rice are the undisputed midfield men who take up the roles at the base of the club’s midfield as the double pivot in a 4-2-3-1, despite their ages.

According to Spotrac, the only man currently pocketing more cash on a weekly basis than Wilshere is Andriy Yarmolenko, and the Ukranian is showing exactly why he’s on the big bucks this season, something Wilshere isn’t.

When the midfielder left Arsenal it was because he couldn’t offer consistency of performance over a season owing to injuries, and even now he’s fit the fans at West Ham can’t be too impressed.
