Having been drawn against Liverpool for the opener last season, West Ham will have been hoping for a slightly kinder start to the 2019/20 campaign.

The club haven’t received that as we were drawn to play Manchester City, but look past that game and the club have been handed a relatively good start.

Following the aforementioned game, West Ham will face Brighton & Hove Albion, Watford, Norwich City and Aston Villa.

These are all winnable games and the Hammers will be catching two newly promoted sides sides at a time when they likely won’t have fully adapted to Premier League life, but the novelty of being back in the top flight probably won’t be as strong as in the first couple of fixtures.

Some will point to the fact that the Hammers lost all four of their first home games lasts season despite having a kind start; though that was a West Ham team in transition and as well as facing Liverpool, we did play Arsenal and a Wolves side who would go on to get Europa League football in that time.

It is certainly annoying to have been selected to open the season against the best team in English football, but this shouldn’t stop the Hammers from having a much more convincing start to this season than we did the last.
