New West Ham signing Pablo Fornals already has one eye on taking the Hammers to Europe after putting pen to paper on a five-year-deal in east London.

In appointing the former Manchester City manager last summer, West Ham set out a very clear target of reaching European football within the next three years, and Fornals says there is no reason they cannot chase it.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder is joining a side with a penchant for toppling some of the best in the Premier League, a trait they are going to have to keep up should West Ham break the top six or seven and finish in a European place.

European football has long been Manuel Pellegrini's aim with the Hammers.

The Spaniard, who joined on Friday following a £24million move from Villarreal, is currently preparing for the U21 European Championships in Italy and San Mario, but is raring to go in the Premier League.

"Obviously it motivates me to play big games against great teams," Fornals said.

"In addition I am lucky to play now in the Premier League where almost every weekend you play against a great team so I am very excited."
