West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini says Michail Antonio is making early good progress on his long road to recovery from successful hamstring surgery.

Antonio could be out for up to four months after suffering a serious hamstring injury in the Carabao Cup tie at Newport earlier this month.

Manuel Lanzini returned to West Ham on Friday after a 10,000-mile round trip with Argentina to play in a friendly against Mexico in Texas on Wednesday.

"Manu returned from his long injury with a long of trust.

"I spoke with him on Friday and he felt without any pain so everything is going to the correct way.” West Ham will be without Antonio when they travel to Aston Villa on Monday night but Pellegrini has confirmed all their international players returned unscathed this week.

But Antonio is not experiencing any pain and Pellegrini said: “The doctors are happy.

After a long time without playing he needs some time to return to his best.
