West Ham’s main man is desperate to leave the club this month and was the subject of a £35million bid from an unknown Chinese club earlier this week.

The Hammers promptly rejected the offer and are hoping the 29-year-old will see out the remainder of his contract at the London Stadium.

A few weeks before his sacking as United manager, it emerged that Jose Mourinho was keen on signing Arnautovic, who he coached during his time in charge of Inter Milan.

And Crouch believes the Austria international would flourish at Old Trafford if he were to join the Red Devils.

“Marko Arnautovic always struck me as a player who could end up at Manchester United,” the former Liverpool striker told The Daily Mail. “Old Trafford looked like it would be the perfect stage for him.

“Some of you may laugh at that statement but, believe me, Marko has always had special ability.

“There were doubts about his temperament and maybe that's why one of the top six haven't taken him.

“But the next best thing for him was a club such as West Ham, on the up in the Premier League.

“They made him their main man, something he always wanted to be, and he has thrived.”

Arnautovic’s desire to leave West Ham was reiterated by his brother - who acts as his agent - shortly after the club rejected the £35million offer for the former Stoke City man.

The West Ham board may be keen to retain the Austrian’s services, but Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini seems resigned to losing the forward.

"We'll see what happens in the next days," Pellegrini told Sky Sports after West Ham’s 1-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday.

"It's an issue that the club must see what is the best for him, for the player, for the club, for everyone.

"I hope he will take the best decision for everyone.

"I have been in these situations a lot of times. I have been a manager for about 30 years.”

West Ham will next be in action next Saturday, travellingto the Vitality Stadium to take on Bournemouth.
