Manuel Pellegrini has said that Michail Antonio is currently not experiencing any discomfort in his hamstring after successfully going under the knife ten days ago.

The injury was so severe that the club had to wait for 48 hours before they cold send Antonio for an MRI scan which confirmed the worst - a hamstring tear.

Only Antonio and Winston Reid currently occupy the treatment table in east London as Manuel Pellegrini has a near full strength team to choose from for the trip to Aston Villa on Monday night.

Ahead of the game next week, the Hammers manager gave a quick update on Antonio's status and how his recovery is going.

The Hammers winger pulled up just seven minutes into the 2-0 Carabao Cup victory over Newport County chasing a through ball from Aaron Cresswell and immediately fell to the ground and asked to be substituted.

Pellegrini said after being asked how the surgery went: "I hope well.

The manager reported that the majority of his first team squad came through the recent international break unscathed, with latecomers Manuel Lanzini and Fabian Balbuena returning to the training pitches on Friday ahead of the Villa match next week.
