Valencia is out of contract in the summer, meaning he has been free to talk with foreign clubs since January 1.

Manchester United could still make an offer to the Ecuadorian, but it’s claimed the Red Devils are aware he is already assessing his options.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has brought Valencia back into the first-team after the right-back had been pushed to the fringes by Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho was sacked before Christmas though and it’s reported that United now do not want to weaken Solskjaer’s squad.

But the Mirror say Inter Milan have already started negotiations with Valencia’s advisers.

It’s been suggested that United will not take up the option of extending Valencia’s deal by 12 months, like they have done with David de Gea and Anthony Martial recently.

And it’s claimed that Inter would like to take 33-year-old Valencia to Italy as early as this month.

It had previously been claimed in Italy that Valencia could make the switch if Joao Miranda left the San Siro giants.

The Brazil international reportedly wants to leave and it’s claimed that he is aware of interest from other clubs in Europe and China.

Miranda’s agents will reportedly discuss his future with the club next week.

Valencia has been part of a poor United defence this season but Danny Murphy believes the Red Devils problems at the back have been overblown.

He recently said: “If you look at United’s squad, people say, ‘They need this defender, that defender.’

“Their strength is in attacking areas so it makes sense to play to your strengths and alleviate pressure off your back players.

“It’s a bit of a myth anyway because the last two seasons United have had the second-best defence in the Premier League so they have got players who can do it.

“[Antonio] Valencia had been left out and I thought he’d been the best right-back in the Premier League the last two years.”

Valencia will hope to be involved as Manchester United travel to Tottenham on Sunday (4.30pm).
