Some players are simply too valuable to sell for a club, and when they are also as keen to remain as the team themselves, you have yourself Rice, who won’t be leaving West Ham anytime soon.

One of the biggest deals to take place this previous summer, though, was that of Harry Maguire to Manchester United where the Red Devils spent a reported £80m on the England international as reported by BBC Sport, breaking the previous record for a fee spent on a defender, and for former player Noel Whelan, West Ham star Declan Rice could be the next big-money move in the Premier League.

I could see them looking to get Rice in January.” Of course, this isn’t the first time that Rice has been linked with a move up north to Manchester, with both clubs being rumoured with a move for the 20-year-old as reported by the Manchester Evening News, yet the thought that the midfielder could leave West Ham, let alone this season, is ludicrous.

Rice has stated multiple times, most recently to The Evening Standard, that he is not seeking a move away from West Ham anytime soon, seemingly implying that if a mega-money offer from United was to come in that it will be swiftly rejected by the Hammers.

With money playing a more bigger role than ever in football, it is understandable as to why the inflation of transfer fees has been so dramatic.

Gone are the days where spending £20m on a single-player was considered an expensive deal and in have come deals where £30m-£40m on a squad player is becoming the norm.

We have just seen Harry Maguire go for £80 million and I wouldn’t be surprised if Rice goes for more than that, above £90 million, even.
