Former Leeds United ace Noel Whelan believes ‘liability’ Roberto has played his last game in a West Ham United shirt after David Martin’s Chelsea display.

He’s played his last West Ham game if they’re bringing in a new keeper in January.

Do West Ham need to sign a goalkeeper in January?

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan was fairly adamant we won’t see Roberto play for West Ham again with the January transfer window looming large: I’m afraid to say that, at Premier League level, he is awful in goal.

If West Ham can sell Roberto in January you’d think they will, but it’d be baffling to see another club spend money on the 33-year-old based on recent form.

It’s most likely no coincidence that Manuel Pellegrini’s side put in a strong defensive performance and earned a huge result in the first game Roberto was dropped.

Martin made his Hammers debut and kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 triumph at Stamford Bridge, following a run of woeful results with Roberto in between the sticks.
