'Green suits him': Fans go wild over Republic of Ireland's happy birthday tweet to Declan Rice... who may still decide to represent EnglandDeclan Rice has still not declared whether he will play for the Republic of Ireland That did not stop them referring to him as an Ireland international in a tweetSocial media went wild over the happy birthday message from Ireland

Declan Rice's international future is still uncertain after his blistering start to the season for West Ham.

He featured regularly for the Republic of Ireland at youth level and was even capped by them in a friendly, but his lack of competitive action means he can still play for England.

The Three Lions have courted him heavily, and successive Ireland managers have been asked about his likely international allegiance.

The Republic of Ireland wished Declan Rice a happy birthday and called him their international

Last week, he commented: 'Myself, my dad and my brother have talked with Ireland coach Mick McCarthy and I've also spoken to Gareth Southgate.

'They've both said that whenever I'm ready, it's up to me to make a decision.

'There was so much going on earlier in the season but now most of that has been sorted, so I will make a decision soon.'

This has been a particularly good weekend for the 20-year-old. Rice scored his first goal for his boyhood team against Arsenal, giving them a 1-0 victory on Saturday.

And it was also his birthday on Monday as he finally passed from his teenage years into his twenties.

The Republic of Ireland decided to wish him a public birthday, but it was part of their tweet that caught the eye of fans on Twitter.

They referred to Rice as an 'Ireland international'. Plenty reacted as though that had confirmed his international allegiance going forward.

DJ JJ Hartigan wrote on his Twitter: 'Green suits him...'.

Gary Lineker replied, suggesting otherwise: 'Clashes a little with his eyes. I’m sure he’ll bear this in mind when he decides to play for @England'.
