A host of Premier League clubs have joined West Ham in their pursuit of Shanghai Shenhua forward Odion Ighalo.

It feels like West Ham have been down this road far too many times in recent years.

West Ham have gone down the route of signing past-it Premier League strikers who have scored goals earlier in their career and it has not worked out, so this would be a step back from the Hammers.

According to TeamTalk, Watford, Southampton, Newcastle and Everton are all also interested in the striker as they eye up swoops for him in the January transfer window.

Would he be a good signing?

The report claims that Shenhua would be willing to let him leave on loan, with the view to a permanent deal in the summer, despite him only joining in February.

If they are insistent on signing another striker to challenge Sebastien Haller, they should look for fresh talent with hunger and something to prove.
