West Ham are once again being linked with a move for Real Betis' Portuguese international William Carvalho.

However Sullivan's version of events was later disputed by Sporting's Nuno Saraiva, who accused West Ham of making an illegal approach to Carvalho and slammed the co-owner's comments as "intellectual pornography".

However reports from Portugal (via Estadio Deportivo) suggest that West Ham have made fresh enquiries into Carvalho's availability - less than a year after he joined La Liga's Real Betis in a ?16million (plus add-ons) deal.

"I told Slaven that I was going back in with ?25million," Sullivan told The Guardian.

Sporting's Nuno Saraiva accused West Ham's Sullivan of being economical with the truth [] "I did what Slaven wanted and his agent couldn?t deliver.

During 2017's negotiations with Sporting, West Ham's offered ?20million for Carvalho, ?5million short of the Portuguese club's valuation of the player.

The defensive midfielder was a key target of former manager Slaven Bilic's two summers ago when still at Sporting, but the move fell through after a row ensued between the club's director Nuno Saraiva and West Ham's David Sullivan.
