It has not been a great season for our Under 23 squad, but Nathan Holland has not been short of admirers after finding the net against Derby on Monday.

His 83rd-minute strike secured a point and ensured the season goes down to the wire as we bid to secure our Premier League 2 Division 1 status for another year.

Jahmal Hector-Ingram had drawn us level earlier in the second half with a powerful effort driven beyond the Rams’ goalkeeper at his near post, but Josh Shonibare headed the hosts back in front five minutes later.

With the game seemingly getting away from us, and with it our hopes of survival, Holland picked the ball up on the left-wing, cut inside passed the Derby right-back, before squaring up with the Rams’ centre-half, who misread the situation and hopped out of the way as our winger drifted into the box.

It was only Holland’s second goal of the season, to go with his effort against Blackburn in November, and now fans are calling for Manuel Pellegrini to offer the 20-year-old a shot in the first-team.

The boss will likely be without Manuel Lanzini and Samir Nasri for the upcoming visit of Leicester to the London Stadium, with the Argentine’s groin strain and Frenchman’s calf problem set to be assessed.
