Former Newcastle manager Alan Pardew would have finally reached the end of his eight-year deal with the Magpies today.

He initially signed a five-and-a-half year deal when he succeeded Chris Hughton in 2010 but his tenure eventually descended into chaos with supporters unfurling banners at the stadium crying out for his dismissal.

The club went on to finish 16th and 10th in the following seasons, but despite the team struggling in mid-table once again, he was spared from an official sacking and was allowed to join Crystal Palace in 2014-15 after four years on Tyneside.

Fans have taken the opportunity to 'celebrate' the end of the long-term deal, with one joking that Newcastle should 'offer him another eight years'.

The standout 2011-12 season saw Pardew named Premier League manager of the season and was also given League Managers Association Manager of the Year - becoming the first English manager to win both awards in a single season.

He had won just six out of 36 in that calendar year.

The following year he was handed another chance in the Premier League with strugglers West Brom.
