West Ham will open their 2019/20 Premier League campaign against Manchester City - completing a run of opening day fixtures agianst the 'top six'.

Having been pitched against Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool in the first match for the last last five seasons it was no surprise to discover that West Ham will face the league champions on the opening day of the forthcoming campaign.

Here's why anyone hoping for a trip to Norwich on the opening day of the new season is likely to be disappointed when the fixture list is announced on Thurs.

Last 5 opening day fixtures: 14/15 Spurs (h) 15/16 Arsenal (a) 16/17 Chelsea (a) 17/18 Man Utd (a) 18/19 Liverpool (a) pic.twitter.com/v30EcloEnc — KUMB.com (@kumbdotcom) June 11, 2019 And it was perhaps just as much as a non-surprise to discover that West Ham will yet again be playing away from home on Boxing Day - despite Karren Brady's previous insistence that West Ham have never requested to play away on the busy shopping day.

The new season also includes a mid-season break for the first time as England preapres to cope with the usual inch or two of snow that is likely to fall during the month of February.
