In the latest twist in West Ham United’s summer hunt for a striker, Manuel Pellegrini is reportedly eyeing a move for Espanyol frontman Borja Iglesias.

The 26-year-old has only spent one season at the RCDE Stadium but looks set to be on his way out of the exit door after scoring 17 La Liga goals in 37 games last season.

According to Marca, West Ham have replicated Real Betis’ interest in Iglesias and Espanyol vice-president Carlos Garcia Pont has already admitted there is a chance he could join their Spanish counterparts.

Iglesias has a €28million release clause in his contract and Betis are said to be willing to offer €30million for his services, so if the Hammers’ interest is concrete you would’ve thought a bid would have to be made sooner rather than later.

West Ham have already dipped into the Spanish top-flight this summer by signing Villareal midfielder Pablo Fornals and a move for Celta Vigo frontman Maxi Gomez fell through at the last hurdle due to the proposed payment structure.

Iglesias would certainly be a strong alternative though and he seems to be extremely attainable.

Would you be happy if Iglesias was West Ham's striker signing?
